Wtaching now.

Still a long way to go!

I have no idea who you are, or what you do, but that gun looks awesome, and from your website I gather you think that the MA5B from Halo is a good weapon, and so you are officially god to me in central Europe.

That is the most beautiful weapon iv ever set my eyes on, incredible concept, especially for being 10 or more years old, congrats, maybe ill contract you to design the weapons for my book. Again, congrats, you are awesome

In time I will bloom from your beauty and shinning light, my dark pedals will grow again to let them be plucked in loves words; I love you, I love you not.... on till forever when i bloom once again.....

I orgasmed over that weapon like a million times. I WANT!!!

Since you're on the techie side, I'll drop a few things you might find useful.

Piston, crankshaft, uhh... Research continuous detonation equipment.
Two cavities. Lean and rich mixture. Both ignited, gives extreme pressure. Open valve, both mixtures hit each other, react violently.
Or use pump-injectors. Pressure ranges reach values of diesel detonation.

Diesel which you can store in the spaceframe, like many motorcycles do with gasoline.

Also energy conversion... Do you have any idea what is the power/mass ratio of electric generators?

Lenght of barrel determines how long (time) the projectile accelerates. Making the barrel penetrable to gas (magnetic) means you've got a lot of energy that doesn't go into the bullet. Re-direct it to a turbine or something, since you need power to run that thing anyway.

A magnetic field could be effectively used to dynamically change the exit trajectory of a projectile enormously improving accuracy... But if you intend to use it for propulsion, you'd better research ballotechnics :P

And finally, the denting on the rear part of those bullets would cause turbulence and make them tumble :)

I somehow can't imagine it getting muddy and still working :)

All in all, it's a really (and I mean really) cool fantasy gun. :)

Awesome website, very impressive. The gun is so detailed and thought through. But as an engineer I have to say that you made a mistake in the way this rifle works. The best weapon is one that can hit the target and also be very simple and easy to repair and maintain. Take AK47 for example, that rifle is cheap, accurate and simple. Also, the engine idea is interesting and might work, but not this way. Using only electromagnetic field is enough. Keep it as simple, light and small as possible. Also, barrelless gun is not a new idea, its been used in guns that are design to shoot around corners and so on..

Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear. You are great mechanical modeler, best I have seen so far.
:iconspinery:
Sorry lad. Doesn't work this way. Even actual working railguns often pre-propel the bullet with gas charge. Magnetic field gives the bullet a vector regardless of it's speed - the bigger the field entrance speed, the bigger the field exit speed.
:icongat-art:
well, that is true for everything, but assuming this railgun has some kind of new technology that makes it a lot more powerful than any other current railguns not having a gas discharge would benefit it not only in weight but also in reduction of a recoil. As of today railguns are extremely heavy, large and require large amounts of energy.
